Why Time Zones Got So Weird 🇨🇦🇺🇸 Canada vs USA 🕒

Time zones in Canada and the U.S. look normal: places along similar longitudes usually share the same time 🕒 But on November 1 at 2 a.m., the clock change made things weird. 🇨🇦🇺🇸 Calgary, Alberta, and Destin, Florida, are more than 2,000 miles and nearly 30 degrees of longitude apart, but now have the same local time! Vancouver and Seattle are just one degree apart, yet have a one-hour time difference. The Vancouver-Seattle train takes three hours on the schedule, while the return trip takes five 🚆 even though each journey takes about four hours. And there are dozens of similar cases. Why? British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories decided not to switch to winter time this year, just as Saskatchewan and Yukon have done for years ⏰ When daylight saving time ended in most other regions and clocks went back an hour, the time differences shifted. In spring, when clocks move forward again, those differences should return to normal. #timezones #daylightsavingtime #timechange #canada #usa #states #timedifference #clockchange #ustimezones #standardtime #northamerica #britishcolumbia #alberta #vancouver #seattle #border #learning #geography #map #history
