<description>Stealth Fighter jet the F-35A carries a 25mm Gatling gun that you will never see from the outside. The GAU-22/A sits hidden inside the jet’s left shoulder, above the intake, behind a door that only opens when the pilot pulls the trigger. The kicker, it holds just over 180 rounds and can empty that magazine in just over three seconds. So this is how the ground crew loads it. The ammunition rides on a linear linkless conveyor snaked around the jets structure, so the Air Force had to buy a machine for this jet alone: the F-35A bulk ammunition loader, a cart carrying four magazines that are filled by hand to push fresh rounds in while removing the used ones all in one pass. In this video we will also follow the 388th Fighter Wing’s first operational load at Hill Air Force Base in August of 2018 break down the gun’s numbers and compare it with the 220-round pod the Marine and Navy F-35s carry instead. Then we go on a trip to the Pentagon to find out exactly why the test office called the F-35A’s gun unacceptable. If you enjoyed this video please check out our channel for more videos like it.
